It was a love and appreciation for everything I’d built, the people I’d met, and the person I had become in the past year–finally able to be realized. Italian is vibrant, fun and expressive whether it’s spoken softly over candlelight or shouted at a fish market. It is also quite common to swim in this Lake and if you visit, you absolutely must visit the charming town of Sirmione. Nothing better than a fettucine vongole at the beach with a crisp Pinot Grigio or Friulano and a gentle sea breeze to go with it! This Italian guy came over, offered his advice on their economics projects and then started drinking with us.

The first was as an angst-ridden Year 10 teenager taking one of the coveted spots on a school ski trip primarily filled with Year 11 teenagers. Also one of the most fascinating cities on the planet, endearing villages, intriguing history, gorgeous natural beauty, and excellent train system(s). From the rich, hearty dishes of the north to the fresh seafood of the south, every region has its own unique specialties. You can just make your way to an airport hotel for the night before your flight home (no need to stay in big cities themselves for this if you don't want to). As a sign of respect, shoulders and knees should be covered in a church (a scarf or shawl around the shoulders is fine). The food was definitely another level and was amazing and for desert the tiramisu was out of this world!I asked for Tortellini in Brodo on my first trip to Florence and the waiter said I should go to Bologna and get it myself! Visitors flock here to witness the magnificence of the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo's stunning frescoes adorn the ceiling and walls. Italy is a wine lover's paradise, with vineyards scattered throughout the country producing a staggering variety of wines. However, my husband and have had flings with other European countries, New Zealand, Australia, the South Pacific. Because so many crafts are regional specialties or even particular to a specific city or village, this is a great way to get your head around Italy’s diversity and the many different influences that have permeated the country over the centuries.

Flashfoward to the present day and I'm now living with the same guy I met 4 years ago on my study abroad trip. Let’s face it, a simple “ti amo” is sweet but you could take these words a little further and really sweep your lover off their feet. You can find them all over Italy, but Sicily remains the backdrop of the legend and the spiritual home of Teste di Moro. A sublime marriage of two amazing food products from Modena: parmigiano-reggiano cheese and Balsamico di Modena.

Italy is a country that effortlessly weaves together vibrant cities and charming villages, each with its own unique character and beauty.
