Description

He is a member of the High Energy Physics group at the University of Manchester, and works on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, near Geneva, Switzerland. It’s a nice book, even though it really lacked the explanatory power of “ The Quantum Universe: Everything That Can Happen Does Happen”, which I loved. So if I finish the book and I still don't understand the universe, they're going to tell me it's my fault.

Black holes are places in space and time where the laws of gravity, quantum physics and thermodynamics collide. Overall, "Black Holes" is a great introduction to the topic and a fascinating read for both science enthusiasts and general readers alike. it’s definitely more in depth than some of their other books, but that was something i really loved about it!The last few chapters explore the possible ideas of connecting quantum mechanics with gravity, as well as a theory that the world might be a hologram.

Generally Cox is really good at simplifying complex ideas but here, except for the odd paragraph or two, he failed. However, through the tangled web of math and concept, the things that I was able to glimpse were quite mind boggling. If you don't see a follow up to this review it means I've found the wormhole to another universe or travelled to another time or dimension. If the wheel rotates faster than the cameras FPS then the wheel on film is seen to Counter rotate, seeming to spin in the opposite direction.

O grande feito deste livro foi fazer com que uma ex-estudante de Humanidades, que tinha uma vaga ideia de Física, se sentisse apta a responder a um questionário a esse respeito. The more the authors enlightened me about Black Holes, the denser my brain became until I eventually passed through the Event Horizon (my ability to read further) which resulted in a Singularity.Imagine that a pair of these particles, which would have come into existence and disappeared again, they can be configured such that one's on the inside of the horizon and one is on the outside of the horizon. Now that was a remarkable discovery because temperature was just a thing you could measure on a thermometer, but it was really only fully understood when we knew that everything is made of atoms. I like Brian Cox's TV shows and i am going to see him Live next year, this book is excellent but heavy going, i think it is impossible to explain these things in simple terms, so it will take me awhile to navigate this book, one section at a time!
