After blowing me away with his thoughtful approach to science fiction with Arrival, and his impressive work with Sicario, Enemy, and Prisoners - I felt that this film at least would be interesting. Our mission at AV NIRVANA is to pursue audio and video systems that deliver extraordinary satisfaction, allowing one to transcend the ordinary while becoming completely and blissfully engaged by music and movies.

It’s now the year 2049 and the world of replicants and humans is so much different, but still eerily similar. But the surrounds and overhead channels are just as cleverly utilised for precision as they are punch, as the drone takes flight and hovers around almost imperceptibly. Of the movies I've looked at, Dunkirk and the 70mm IMAX filmmaking process clearly provided a resolution enhancement.Blade Runner 2049” is the 2017 sequel to the 1982 Sci-Fi cult classic “ Blade Runner” (originally directed by Ridley Scott). Blade Runner 2049 can be hunted down on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray presented in 3840 x 2160p with a widescreen 2. created in a digital 4K master for its cinematic release and even, so it seems, delivered with native 4K or 3. And a film which doesn't merely build upon the mantle of the 35 year old classic original but arguably goes some way towards not just expanding on it but even besting it. lossless mix (such as the DTS-HD MA) it more mixes these sounds into the rear or front channels and feels a bit condensed in comparison.

From the moment that eye opens you’ll see what I mean with the Score, and hear some impressive rear channel usage. With 13 Oscar nominations and no wins, Deakins is long overdue for the Academy recognition he rightly deserves. A mind-bending blend of spectacular dynamics, sensational detailing, irresistible atmosphere, stunning clarity and, best of all, monumental scale. Right off the bat you get introduced to bass, bass, and MORE unending bass as the heavy beats of the Hans Zimmer and Ben Wallfisch electronic score pulsate through the sound stage.

After that begins a piano driven musical bit during the opening “replicants” text, which sounds splendid. According to the technical specifications on IMDb, “ Blade Runner 2049” was shot digitally on a total of three different types of Arri Alexa cameras in 2. Black Out (HD, 15:45) – This animated short from director Shinichiro Watanabe gives some backstory to a major event that forms an important part of the plot of Blade Runner 2049. Also, frustratingly the film doesn’t ship with a Dolby Vision master, despite one being done for the film’s cinematic release. All Blade Runner 2049’s extra features are found on the REGION-FREE Blu-ray that accompanies the 4K disc.

When K goes out to a farm to track down a rogue generation 8 model named Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista) he discovers something akin to their version of a Pandora's box. The 4K Blu-ray picture is one of the sharpest, cleanest and most detailed I’ve seen, and the Atmos soundtrack (on the US disc) is a masterpiece. The 4K highlights the quality of Deakin's lighting and Dennis Gassner's fantastic production design, resulting in a fabulous looking disc. To find the truth, K must seek out assistance from a former Blade Runner known as Deckard (Harrison Ford) who has been missing for over thirty years.

He has crafted a film which has a unique identity, which boasts the quintessential style associated with the filmmaker, yet is so heavily entrenched in everything you'd expect to see from a film set in the Blade Runner universe that it feels like an organic continuation of the original movie. Key kit used for this test: Samsung UE65Ks9500, Oppo 203 4K Blu-ray player, Panasonic UB900 4K Blu-ray player. Ultimately, though, while I admire Blade Runner 2049 and enjoyed unlocking more of its narrative secrets on a second viewing, it’s not honestly a film I expect to watch again and again for years to come in the same way I have its predecessor.Fine detail is excellent, whether it's the track conveying the crunch of footsteps on snow or the noise Joi makes when she transitions. Rather than just taking scenes and replicating them, Villeneuve understood everything that was great about the original and used its DNA to craft a worthy successor. As clean as dialogue is, there are long stretches of silence where no one is talking and all you're left with is atmosphere.
